We're happy to share the fascinating history and many attractions of our town with you!

Albatross began as a small farming town in the early 1800s, but after many years of hard scrabble for little yield, the first settlers and their children finally admitted that the soil was ill-suited to agriculture. Luckily, not long after that, the nearby waterways were discovered to be rich in fish, and Albatross's famous cannery soon became a local economic powerhouse, employing dozens, and eventually hundreds, of hard-working and stubborn Albatrossians. This is known by locals as the Great Rebirth.

Working in the Finest Fins cannery has been a rite of passage for the youth of Albatross for over a century. Many young Albatrossians have gone on to great achievements in the wider world, strengthened by the lessons of hard work and friendship learned among the fish.

But the cannery isn't the whole story — far from it! Albatross boasts scenic waterways, bushwalking tracks, and some of the best recreational fishing you'll find anywhere!

So please: consider taking your next vacation in Albatross. You can stay in the quaint, comfortable rooms above the Bottoms Up Pub, enjoy a fine seafood dinner in Jamie and Scooter's Fry Hut, and catch a vintage film every Friday afternoon at the Town Hall. We also have many arts-and-crafts clubs that would make you more than welcome, whether your interests run to knitting, woodworking, scrapbooking, or amateur filmmaking. You can also take a walk in the beautiful countryside that surrounds Albatross. If you're lucky — or unlucky! — you might catch a glimpse of our famous local bunyip. We call him Albie!
